ALWAYS INNOVATING
Stanford Research Park was founded by Frederick Terman (the “Father of Silicon Valley”) in 1951. A Stanford University-affiliated research and development park, it quickly became a cornerstone of what would become Silicon Valley.
Over the years, the Research Park grew from a single site to today’s 700 acre technology hub — attracting leading R&D talent from around the world.
When we set out to create a community of technical
scholars in Silicon Valley, there wasn't much here and the rest of the world looked awfully big. Now a lot of the rest of the world is here.
THE NEXT
75 YEARS
Stanford Research Park is a place where innovators, entrepreneurs, and business leaders come to push the limits of what’s possible. That’s the nature of research and development — looking to the future, exploring what’s possible, creating something new, iterating on what works, and discovering how to take new products to market.
The original Bay Area R&D hub, today over 150 companies have a presence here — with new companies joining our community every year. We house the R&D facilities of electric car manufacturers, life science and medical technology companies, multinational enterprise software leaders, established tech firms, and groundbreaking start-ups. We’re a cornerstone of Palo Alto, generating career opportunities along with economic and education benefits for the community.
Nestled among ancient oaks and rolling hills and within easy reach of world-renowned Stanford University, we embrace the park-like environment enjoyed by the people who work here. The natural beauty of the area is augmented by the use of solar power, landscaping that conserves water, and charging stations for electric vehicles — signs of our dedication to a sustainable future.
As a place that has always been at the heart of invention and creativity, we look forward to the transformative progress that happens over the next 75 years at Stanford Research Park. There’s no telling what’s next.
Stanford Research Park, the brainchild of Stanford University’s Frederick Terman, was established in 1951 as a place where discoveries made at the University could be developed for real world impact. Many major technological advancements of the past 75 years can be traced back to this collaboration and innovators in Stanford Research Park continue to push forward with groundbreaking initiatives ranging from life-saving therapies to autonomous vehicles. Frederick Terman would be proud!
